The Marion Gräfin Dönhoff Bursary was established in 2002 and it is an exchange programme for young journalists in Germany and Eastern Europe.
Structure and Organization. Every year, a series of German journalists have the opportunity to spend two months working as guest editor at Russian or Polish-speaking media. The programme also offers journalists in CIS states and Poland the opportunity to spend two months working in Germany. Marion Countess Dönhoff (2.12.1909-11.3.2002), longstanding publisher of the “Zeit”, initiated the IJP programme for Eastern Europe which bears her name.
Objectives. With the assistance of the German-East European bursary, young journalists are able to gain personal insights into the politics, economy, culture and everyday business practices in CIS states or Poland. It is a unique opportunity for them to work in a foreign journalistic environment and gain new experiences.
